Sportstarts is a charity that has been set up to help discover athletic talent in both able bodied and disabled children in the London Borough of Merton.

Sportstarts will provide both able-bodied and disabled school age children with the opportunity to attend free taster sessions in a variety of Olympic and Paralympic disciplines that they would not normally get the opportunity to try.

Sportstarts will follow up on taster sessions by accepting applications from eligible children to attend further training sessions in the sporting discipline of their choice in the hope that the seed sown during taster sessions might lead to future sporting successes both individually, locally, nationally and internationally.

Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern games, said that holding an Olympic Games meant evoking history. In celebration of the 2012 London Games the founders of Sportstarts, brothers Alex and Christo Eliott Lockhart, have decided to do just that.

Having never seriously competed in one Olympic sport Alex and Chriso decided to celebrate the Olympic year by competing in all of them. Over the course of 2012 Alex and Christo will compete against each other (and anyone else who wishes to join them) in 80 Olympic and 5 Paralympic disciplines.

The challenge kicked off on Tuesday 3rd January with the running of the 3000m Cross Country and will continue throughout the year. Anyone is welcome to join them for any number of events to help raise money for Sportstarts

Recent Events

A monster weekend in the Evoking Hsitory Challenge saw 4 sports ticked off list and Christo clawing back some vital points on the leaderboard with victories in the Table Tennis and Tennis. Alex prevented a whitewash with a stunning win in the archery and due to the amount to learn in the Judo (ie. how not to injure oneself or each other) there was some good training but no actual bouts.

Many thanks to all those who helped make these events such a success, with particular thanks to Adrian Tippin at www.cmbowmen.org and Ray Stevens at www.raystevensjudo.co.uk
