Baron Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern games, said that holding an Olympic Games meant evoking history. In celebration of the 2012 London Games the founders of Sportstarts, brothers Alex and Christo Eliott Lockhart, have decided to do just that.
On a cold weekend sometime back in 2010 Alex and Christo, being somewhat competitive, thought it might be fun to compete against each other in all the Olympic sports during the Olympic year. On 3rd January their brotherly banter came to fruition with the launch of the Evoking History Challenge. The goal is to compete against each other in 80 Olympic and 5 Paralympic disciplines over the course of 2012. In doing so they will raise as much money as possible for Sportstarts.
To make things more interesting, one of the brothers is getting married in July and is under strict instruction not to do anything that may harm his looks or ability to walk down the aisle prior to the wedding.

The first weekend of May was a big one with four events completed and Christo gaining some valuable points in the Evoking History Challenge. The weekend started off well for Christo with a 4-1 (11-7, 11-5, 11-8, 7-11, 11-6) victory in the Table tennis at Tooting Leisure Centre, and then followed it up the next day with a three set victory in the tennis at Wimbledon... Park. The All England Club this certainly wasn't and I'm not sure Muzza has much to fear for his spot in team GB but much fun was had all round with Christo running out a 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 winner. The second part of the weekend (possibly the coldest May weekend on record) brought Alex & Christo to CMOBowmen of Croydon and the excellent tutelage of Adrian Tippin. In a 2 hour taster session the boys learnt how to fire a recurve freestyle bow and spent some time honing our skills and attempting to hit the target from a distance of 20 metres (50m short of the Olympic distance!). In the 72 arrow, 12 end competition over an increased distance of 30 metres, it was clear from very early on in the contest that Alex was in the zone and his zen-like calmness ensured that would not be whitewashed. Alex ran out a convincing winner 497-343. Before the main competition got under way, A & C were given the chance to experience what it is like to shoot 6 arrows from an Olympic standard recurve freestyle bow (draw weight of 36-38lb). In olympic competition arrows are shot over a distance of 70m which requires hitting a target the equivalent of a 10 pence piece. Alex showed great aptitute hitting with all six arrows...Christo was more hit and miss! The mega weekend was rounded off with a little judo courtesy of 1992 Olympic Silver Medalist Ray Stevens at his Judo school. This was literally a crash course in Judo with neither brother having ever tried it before, or indeed ever learnt how to fall properly despite 20 odd years each of rugby. Crash after crash they hit the mats, then the floor, with bruises spreading by the minute but surprisingly great fun at the same time. Due to the nature of the sport and the limited time they didn't actually have a proper bout so no winner for the Judo has yet been declared, but they do plan to return for a little more practice and some controlled bouts with Ray determining the winner.
